Home recording checklist: input, clipping, and latency
Use a short test recording to verify microphone permission, input selection, monitoring, and headroom.
Save and listen to a ten-second test before recording a long performance. Whether recording singing, acoustic guitar, or a podcast, first verify the intended input and output devices.
Recording order
- Connect headphones and allow microphone access. If permission was denied, change it in the site's browser settings.
- Check the input selected by the operating system and editor. A connected USB microphone does not guarantee it is selected.
- Prepare the recording track and watch the input meter during the loudest passage. Reduce input gain if peaks reach the limit.
- Record ten seconds, stop, and play the saved take. Hearing direct monitoring alone does not prove audio was recorded.
Silence, doubled voices, and delay

Importing phone recordings
If browser recording is impractical, record in a phone's recording app and transfer the audio to a computer for editing. This does not mean every feature works in mobile browsers. Device, browser, and memory constraints still apply.
Keep voice and backing separate
Speaker playback leaks into the microphone, making isolated vocal edits harder. Use headphones and separate tracks. Preserve the original take and try noise reduction or tuning on a copy.
Choose the next edit from what you hear
If a few sung notes miss the accompaniment, try a copy in the pitch editor. If steady background noise masks the recording, compare the Noise Removal example before processing your take. These are different jobs: tuning will not repair clipped input, and denoising will not correct the melody.
