From analysis to rendering

1. Load a vocal in free online autotune editor and wait for pitch analysis.
2. When notes appear in the piano roll, check the song key and scale. Automatic detection is a suggestion; listen against the accompaniment.
3. Preview a short phrase. Start gently for natural correction, increasing strength only when you want a stronger effect.
4. Correct obvious detection errors note by note. Increasing global strength will not fix a note being pulled toward the wrong pitch.
5. Apply the result when satisfied and save it separately from the original.

Three checks for naturalness

Listen for abrupt note entries, lost vibrato at phrase endings, and distorted consonants. A perfectly straight pitch line is not the objective. Slides and vibrato can be part of the performance.

Making a hard-tuned effect

Set the intended key first, then use stronger and faster correction. Aggressive chromatic correction can pull notes into pitches that clash with the accompaniment. Check intelligibility and musical fit in the whole mix, not only the solo vocal.
